Material Inspection
-
Verify pipes, plates, fittings, flanges, and welding materials.
-
Check Material Test Certificates (MTCs).
-
Verify material identification and traceability.
-
Inspect welding consumables and ensure proper storage and handling.
2. WPS / Welder Qualification
-
Review and verify the approved WPS (Welding Procedure Specification).
-
Verify welder qualifications such as WPQ/WQT.
-
Ensure the correct welding process and consumables are being used.
-
Check preheat, interpass temperature, amperage, voltage, and other required parameters.
3. Fit-Up Inspection
-
Inspect joint preparation before welding.
-
Check root gap, bevel angle, alignment, cleanliness, and tack welding.
-
Verify correct material and joint identification.
-
Approve fit-up before welding begins.
4. Welding Inspection
-
Monitor welding activities and ensure compliance with the approved WPS.
-
Inspect weld passes and final weld appearance.
-
Identify defects such as:
-
Cracks
-
Porosity
-
Undercut
-
Lack of fusion
-
Lack of penetration
-
Overlap
-
Excessive reinforcement
-
Ensure proper weld identification and traceability.
5. NDT Coordination
-
Coordinate required NDT such as:
-
RT – Radiographic Testing
-
UT – Ultrasonic Testing
-
MT – Magnetic Particle Testing
-
PT – Penetrant Testing
-
VT – Visual Testing
-
Review NDT reports and verify results against acceptance criteria.
-
Follow up on weld repairs and re-inspection.
6. Documentation & Reporting
-
Prepare and maintain Welding Inspection Reports (WIR).
-
Maintain weld maps, weld tracking, and inspection records.
-
Review MTCs, WPS, WPQ/WQT, NDT reports, and repair records.
-
Prepare NCRs when work does not meet requirements.
-
Maintain complete welding quality documentation for final handover.
7. Code & Specification Compliance
Ensure welding activities comply with the applicable:
-
ASME
-
AWS
-
API
-
ISO
-
Project specifications
-
Client/contract requirements
8. Safety
-
Follow all site HSE requirements.
-
Ensure safe welding practices are followed.
-
Verify appropriate PPE and welding safety controls.
-
Report unsafe conditions immediately.
